planning approval for a bespoke contemporary house in lisburn city
Clogher Road has just been recommended for approval by the planning department in Lisburn City Council.
The design is topographically driven maximizing the existing
landscape’s natural views and quirks whilst providing secure shelter as well as
creating a sense of connection between the building and its surroundings. Approached
from the south-west the dwelling has a restrained appearance, with the texture
and colour of the timber cladding and zinc roofing material contrasting and
interacting with the warmth of the existing stone walls. The dwelling retains
the integrity of the existing barn whilst hinting to the dynamic design within.
The dramatic and exciting contrast between tradition and modernity is married by using the zinc roofing material in a traditional form on the old barn. Utilizing familiar elements whilst constantly contrasting them with fresh, modern aesthetic choices.
The main residence is formed from the combination of the existing stone barn, the modern new build and the link between. The main entrance to the residence occurs where old meets new. The internal layout of the restored barn is in essence the traditional linear plan, though adapted to reflect 21st century living.
